About Me

Hi! I am Mary Beth.

I help kids find their voice using the science of creative healing.

Let me tell you why I love being a child and family therapist:

Your kids make amazing changes.

I love to watch them bounce back into happy and meaningful lives. Of all the specialties I could pursue, helping children be confident and authentic is the one that most inspires me.

Play therapy is creative and empowering.

I get to help kids use their imaginations to find their voice and feel like themselves again - only better!

I have a personal connection to facing adversity.

I know firsthand what it’s like to face challenges as a child and a parent. I have done my own work to be able to hold space for yours.

I’m gifted at helping my clients feel safe.

I provide a private, peaceful, clean and inviting space.  People tell me that I have a soothing, fun and non-judgmental style.  I know that your child means everything to you, so I approach our conversations with utmost respect and compassion.

I love to see your whole family grow.

I love watching children and parents transform and heal together. I know that with you by their side, everything is possible.

I’ve helped hundreds of kids with trauma, stress and big feelings.

I have helped nearly a thousand children overcome difficult times.  I have also helped thousands of their family members find relief and a bright future. I am thrilled to be part of that process for you.

My training is focused.

I have worked with children experiencing stress and trauma since 1998. I have spent the last 25 years building my repertoire of tools with an express focus on child mental health and well-being.  I am well-trained in my niche and give the children I work with the highest standard of care.

I have earned the distinction of being a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor by the Association for Play Therapy. I stay informed by teaching at a university, supervising play therapists and volunteering for the Virginia Association for Play Therapy.

I am licensed under the name Mary Elizabeth P. Murray with the Virginia Board of Social Work, #0904008178.

Fun facts about me:

I appreciate life and practice creativity in everyday things. I love to make long music playlists, cook something new, and find quiet places in the woods. You can find me wandering through Richmond admiring murals and views of the river. I try to snap funny pictures of my pets at least once a day.
